OBJECTIVES: To describe paediatric cases of rifampicin (RMP) monoresistant tuberculosis (RMR-TB) disease.

DESIGN: Records of children with culture-confirmed RMR-TB between 1 March 2003 and 28 February 2009 were identified from a prospectively recorded database of drug-resistant TB at TCH and BCH. Mutation analysis was performed on available specimens.

RESULTS: Eighteen children with a median age of 6.9 years (range 2 months-12.8 years) were identified. Nine (50%) were human immunodeficiency virus

(HIV) infected and four (22%) were HIV-exposed but noninfected. Eleven (61%) had had previous TB treatment or prophylaxis. Nine children (50%) had cavitary disease and five children (22%) had extra-pulmonary

disease. Twelve (67%) had adult TB source cases, including five (42%) adults with known MI-503 supplier RMR-TB. Primary transmission occurred among 11 children (61%) and acquisition of RMR-TB was possible in seven (39%) with prior 3-deazaneplanocin A clinical trial RMP exposure. “Objective: This paper explores the effects of perceived stage of cancer (PSOC) on carers’ anxiety and depression during the patients’ final year.

Methods: A consecutive sample of patients and carers (N = 98) were surveyed at regular intervals regarding PSOC, and anxiety and depression using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Means were compared by gender using the Mann-Whitney U-test. The chi-square was used to analyse categorical data. Agreement between carers’ and patients’ PSOC was estimated using kappa statistics. Correlations between carers’ PSOC and their anxiety and depression

were calculated using the Spearman’s rank correlation.

Results: Over time, an increasing proportion of carers reported IPI-145 manufacturer that the cancer was advanced, culminating at 43% near death. Agreement regarding PSOC was fair (kappa = 0.29-0.34) until near death (kappa = 0.21). Carers’ anxiety increased over the year; depression increased in the final 6 months. However, changes in peak shapes suggest significant changes in the connectivity of the B and Si components of the network, with more silicon neighbors surrounding BO(4) tetrahedra in the shocked glasses, and a modest increase in the number of nonring related BO(3) groups following shock-loading. Thus, the irreversible effects of shock-loading appear to be to generate smaller rings of tetrahedra (hence decreasing the average T-O-T bond angle), and to increase the average number of neighbors of Si around boron tetrahedra.
